Another crushing jobs blow
THE threatened loss of up to 425 jobs in two Dublin companies comes hard on the heels of the devastating blow to Waterford with the loss of 575 TalkTalk jobs.
Separate announcements by Dublin-based firms Poker Kings and Allied Logistics, that pressing financial issues are forcing them to let hundreds of workers go, has raised fears and concerns for everyone associated with the companies.
As with all the job losses, it is not just the individual workers, but their immediate and extended families and the wider community around them, who are affected by such decisions.
The loss of lucrative contracts is driving the cutbacks at the two companies. At Poker Kings, 250 staff jobs are threatened and at Allied Logistics 175. We can only hope that there is some way for these companies to overcome the difficulties and save the jobs.
