WHILE the whole country prepares to go soccer mad with the first of Ireland's Euro 2012 games tomorrow, thousands of others will be attending thestart of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin.
It's been 80 years since the last Eucharistic Congress was held in Ireland. There have been major changes in society and in the Church itself since 1932. Inevitably, comparisons have been drawn.
In contrast to 1932, only about one third of Irish Catholics attend Mass each week. Many Catholics are at odds with their Church on a range of issues.
The major events, which will be attended by many overseas visitors, will take place in the RDS and in Croke Park.
It is an important event for Catholics and we wish them well in their week of prayer and deliberations.
