Zoellick is quitting

WORLD Bank President Robert Zoellick (pictured, right) has plans to step down in June -- a move that will open up a powerful position in international finance.

All eyes will now be on the US to see if it will throw open the job, which it has always claimed as its own, to international applications.

"I'm honoured to have led such a world-class institution with so many talented people," Mr Zoellick commented as he announced his retirement plans.
