Would-be robber was recognised

A masked youth armed with a knife tried to rob a Chinese restaurant because he thought he was going to be "whacked" over a drug debt.

But Dublin Children's Court was told his balaclava was of such "poor quality" that a worker recognised the 17-year-old, who fled.

The teenager pleaded guilty yesterday to attempted robbery at the China Kitchen in Leixlip, Co Kildare, last November 3. Judge John O'Connor remanded the teenager on bail pending sentence.
