Workers earn 5pc less

EMPLOYEES are taking home €5 less per €100 compared to 2008 levels, according to the Small Firms Association.

Nominal wages have fallen by 5pc while basic pay has "fallen back to more realistic levels", association director Avine McNally said. Similarly, the number of companies offering other rewards, such as sick pay, pension, health insurance and top-up leave entitlements has also dropped.

In small firms, 18pc of workers earn less than €25,000 a year, 42pc earn between €25,000 and €35,000, 30pc earn €35,000 to €45,000, and 10pc earn more than €45,000.
