Woman walking on N4 killed by car

Gardai appealed today for witnesses to a fatal accident on the N4 near Lucan, Co Dublin.

A woman was walking on the city bound lane of the dual carriageway when she was struck by a passing car at 11.10pm last night.

The 44-year-old victim was rushed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchards-town and was pronounced dead shortly before 2am..

No one else was injured in the collision. Gardai in Lucan appealed today for anyone who witnessed the incident or with information to contact them on 01 6667300.

In a separate incident, a 16-year-old boy was killed in a car crash just before midnight.

The youth was one of five people in a car that was involved in a collision with another car before crashing into a wall.

The collision happened on Harbour View Road, Knocknaheeney, Co Cork, at 11.35pm.

The dead youth was a back seat passenger in the car.

He was taken to hospital along with the other four occupants of the car. He was pronounced dead at Cork University Hospital.

There were two occupants of the other car in the collision and neither of them were injured.

The road was closed and diversions put in place. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Gurranbraher Garda Station on 021 4946200.
