Woman hit by truck is 'critical' in hospital

a woman is in a critical condition in hospital after she was struck by a truck in Terenure yesterday evening.

It's understood that the female pedestrian was struck by the truck carrying a large construction load on Terenure Road East.

She was rushed to hospital where she remained in a serious condition last night.

The road, which links Rathgar and Terenure villages, was closed off for several hours as emergency services attended the scene.

Forensic investigators remained there for at least five hours yesterday evening.

Earlier, a man was killed in an accident in Manorhamilton, Co Laois in a four-vehicle pile up.

Gardai are investigating the collision which occurred on the N16 at Diffreen, Manorhamilton.

Three cars and one rigid bodied lorry were involved in the collision at about 10am.

A total of seven people were taken to Sligo Regional Hospital.

One of the victims, a male driver in his 40s, was pronounced dead a short time later.

The injuries to the other six are not thought to be life-threatening.

The road was closed to facilitate a Garda forensic examination, and local diversions were put in place.
