Wintry conditions took over Tymon Park at the weekend, but runners turned out in their droves as usual to kick-start their weekend with the local parkrun.

The run in the Tallaght park saw more than 150 participants turn out for the weekly event despite the cold and rain.

Slip

Lauren Doyle (28), who lives in Dolphin's Barn, took part in the run with her pal Louise Reidy (30) and said they had to take it a little slower on this run, fearing they'd slip.

The pair came home in just over 34 minutes, crossing the line at almost the same time.

"That was my third time doing it," Lauren said.

"It was a little bit bad, the weather. I texted Louise that morning and asked her if we'd just go to the gym instead, but I'm glad we went out and did it in the end."

Catherine Byrne (45), from Terenure, also took on the run with her husband Fintan (46) and their friend Anita McGovern.

It was Anita's first-ever parkrun, while Catherine and Fintan have been regulars since April.

"We're doing the Run in the Dark on Wednesday night, so I did another 5km after to see if I would be able to do the full 10km," Catherine said.

She added that Fintan did his first marathon after he started the parkruns.
