Why Apprentice chief Bill must write off €15m in car deals if Ireland win Euro 2012
APPRENTICE winner Steve Rayner has dismissed suggestions that Bill Cullen is betting on Ireland to lose in Euro 2012.
Any customer who buys a Renault car from Bill's company in March will get a full refund "when Ireland win Euro 2012".
Self-made entrepreneur Bill Cullen stands to lose big time -- to the tune of an estimated €15m -- if Ireland come out on top.
But Steve, the motor group's leasing manager, said that the firm sees it as an opportunity to get behind the Irish squad in the first major competition in years, as well as creating an extra twist for supporters.
"In a nutshell, it means that anyone who buys a car from March 9 until the end of the month will get a full refund when Ireland win."
Steve, who came up with the offer, said it didn't mean Bill was betting on Ireland to lose.
"No not at all, we want Ireland to win," he said. "Greece did it. They were the 150/1 outsiders who had never won a competition before. And there is a big chance we can, from the group that we're in.
"This just gives it an edge. Ireland is going to be totally engulfed in the competition, the whole place will go crazy in the summer."
Steve, who won the reality show in 2009, is originally from England, but he said that his loyalties lie with the Boys in Green.
"I'm Irish through and through, he said. "My mother's Irish and I've been supporting Ireland since 1988. It's too painful too support England -- they take it far too seriously."
