We're stuffing ourselves silly in junk food binge

IRISH people are stuffing themselves with junk food and flunking the five-a-day 'greens' test.

Some 47pc eat two or more portions of chocolate, biscuits or crisps every day and 72pc are not eating the recommended daily five portions of fruit and vegetables, new research on the Irish diet reveals. It also shows:

  • Some 48pc of young Irish adults aged 18-34 skip breakfast, despite countless studies showing it is the most important meal of the day,

  • Some 56pc of women diet at least once a year.

The Centrum Multivitamins survey was carried out among 1,000 respondents by polling company iReach.

Nutrition expert Sarah Keogh stressed the need for a balanced diet and adequate exercise.
