Varadkar pushes for 20pc more US visitors

TOURISM chiefs have targeted a 20pc boost in American visitors over the next three years.

The plan Make Ireland Jump Out has identified key markets within the United States.

Last year was one of the strongest years ever for visitors from the US and the plan could see more than one million American visitors, spending more than $1bn (¤0.7bn) on trips to Ireland.

The groups include 'young independents', 'middle-aged explorers' and 'mature must-seers and doers'.

Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar said the new US strategy focuses on what Americans like about Ireland and looks at their age group, background and reason for travel.
