Vacancies in IT sector up by 14pc

THE number of jobs advertised online has increased by 4pc in recent months.

IrishJobs.ie revealed the positions advertised from April to June rose in several sectors including hotel & catering, up 19pc; IT, up 14pc; tourism, up 15pc; legal, up 9pc; accountancy & finance, up 5pc; and transport, up 4pc.

"The Irish economy is in a relatively fragile state, but employment is recovering, with domestic demand lagging behind it," said economist Stephen Kinsella (above).

"Both IBEC and the ESRI predicted we would have 50,000 new jobs in 2014. So far it seems we have approximately 1,700.

"The positive predictions from April suggest that Ireland's economy will expand by 3.5pc this year on the back of a resurgence in domestic demand and in exports," he said.
