US is more optimistic

US consumer confidence hit a three-year high in February as Americans became more optimistic about their finances in the near-term, a report has shown.

"Consumers are more positive about the economy and their income prospects, but feel somewhat mixed about employment conditions," said Lynn Franco of the Conference Board, which compiled the report.

However, a separate survey showed that US housing prices took a sharp drop in the fourth quarter in 2010.
