Under-50s hoarding

AN increasing number of people under 50 have begun to save again and put aside money for unexpected expenses.

The survey from Nationwide (UK) Ireland found that people are putting off discretionary spending and keeping between €50 and €100 in savings each month.

A total of 40pc of this sector are now saving regularly -- a marked increase from 33pc in April.

The variety of reasons for saving includes education, holidays and in case of income falls, according to the research which was compiled by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) for Nationwide.
