UK borrowing surplus

THE pressure on Britain's public finances has eased as bumper tax receipts for January saw the UK government record the highest monthly borrowing surplus in more than two years.

Public sector net borrowing, excluding financial interventions by the British government, showed a surplus of £3.7bn (€4.37bn) last month, a marked improvement on last year's deficit of £1.3bn, the Office for National Statistics said.
