A man in his early 40s is recovering in hospital from serious stab wounds after an attack in Co Wexford in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The man was stabbed in the back and legs in the brutal assault.

Two women were arrested at the scene, one of whom is known to the victim.

Gardai in Clonard, Co Wexford, are investigating the attack, which was reported at around 1.10am yesterday at a residence in the town.

The victim was found upstairs at the property with stab wounds and was taken to Wexford General Hospital to receive emergency treatment for his injuries.

Although his injuries are serious in nature they are described as non-life-threatening.

The scene of the stabbing incident was preserved in order for a technical and forensic examination to be carried out by members of the garda Technical Bureau.

The two women who were arrested at the scene are aged in their 30s.

They were taken to Wexford Garda Station for questioning under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act.

It is understood their period of detention was extended to account for rest periods during questioning.

Investigations regarding the incident are said to be still ongoing.

Gardai are appealing for anyone with information in relation to the incident to contact Wexford Garda Station on 053 9165200.

Alternatively, witnesses can contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
