TWO people were injured after a chip pan fire at a Dublin flat last night.
Four units of Dublin Fire Brigade tackled the blaze in Ringsend which broke out around midnight. A garda spokesperson said that one occupant suffered "minor facial injuries", while it is understood that the second person was treated for smoke inhalation.
"It was a fairly standard operation," said the fire services. The investigation could take "a couple of days", however sources say that the fire was started by a chip pan.
Circuit trial for knife robbery
A DUBLIN man who is accused of pulling a kitchen knife on a shop cashier and demanding money from her has been sent forward for trial at the Circuit Court.
Laurence Murphy (37) is alleged to have robbed €430 from the female shop assistant in the incident in Finglas.
It's alleged that Murphy produced a large kitchen knife to intimidate or scare a shop assistant and force her to hand over money form the cash till. The alleged incident took place at Centra, Hampton Wood, Finglas on June 12 last year.
Four months for heroin sale
A LABOURER who was caught buying €1,500 worth of heroin from his dealer in a car park has claimed he was selling the drug to feed his own habit, and was supplying his friends and some members of his family.
Bernard Murray (25) said he only started taking heroin two-and-a-half years ago following the death of his best friend.
The defendant, with an address at John Paul Avenue in Cavan, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to possession of heroin and having the drug for sale or supply. Judge David McHugh said Murray was "dealing in death" and sentenced him to four months in prison.
Church slams Mexican mayor
Mexico's Roman Catholic Church has published its harshest criticism yet of left-wing Mexico City mayor Marcelo Ebrard, accusing his administration of botching issues from crime to public transport.
Mr Ebrard is viewed as a top contender in the 2012 presidential race.
