Two flee to roof in house fire

Two people escaped with their lives by fleeing to a roof in the early hours of this morning when their Glenageary home in south Dublin caught fire.

The blaze broke out at around 3am at the house at the corner of Albert Road Upper and St Catherine's Road, close to the Dart line.

Three fire engines from Dun Laoghaire and Donnybrook fire stations, including an emergency tender and a turntable ladder, fought the blaze.

An ambulance was also dispatched after people were spotted at the house by neighbours who also reported seeing flames, but it is understood there were no injuries as the occupants scrambled to safety on to a roof at the rear of the house.

Engineers from Gas Networks Ireland and ESB Networks were brought to the scene to ensure the house was safe for further investigation to take place.
