Two die in separate accidents overnight

Two people have lost their lives in separate road traffic collisions overnight.

Both incidents happened on the N25 dual-carriageway between Waterford and Wexford in the early hours of the morning.

In the first incident a female pedestrian was fatally injured after a car collided with her on the Wexford to Rosslare Road, on the outskirts of Wexford Town.

The collision occurred at around 1.30am. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, but her identity and age have not yet been positively identified by gardai.

The woman's body has been removed to the mortuary at Wexford General Hospital.

The sole occupant of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man, was uninjured in the collision.

The road is currently closed as garda forensic experts carry out examinations at the scene.

Meanwhile, gardai are investigating a separate fatal traffic collision which also occurred on the N25 road, at Glenmore, Co Kilkenny.

The single vehicle incident happened at about 3am this morning.

A 22-year-old man was seriously injured after the car he was driving struck a ditch.

The victim was transferred to Waterford General Hospital, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The road is also closed to facilitate garda forensic examinations.
