Trial of doctor is postponed

THE trial of a Dublin-based doctor who is accused of breaking medical guidelines by procuring and importing prescription controlled products without authorisation, has been postponed.

Dr Samuel Van Eeden, with an address at Stonehaven, Ballymacdrugh, Donabate, was due to go on trial at Dublin District Court this week. However, Judge John O'Neill heard yesterday that the the defence barrister was not available and a new date would have to be set.

The prosecution consented and Judge O'Neill a granted a three-week adjournment.

The South African-born doctor, who specialises in cosmetic treatments, is accused of unlawfully procuring and importing medicines containing prescription only products, on June 12, 2012.

Nicole for West End musical

Former X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger is to make her London stage debut in the revival of musical hit Cats.

She will take on the role of Grizabella in the Andrew Lloyd Webber production which will begin a limited run at the London Palladium in December.

Scherzinger said she "couldn't be more excited".

Skydivers fall to their deaths

Police say two skydivers have died after crashing into a building during a tandem jump in Massachusetts.

The skydiving instructor and student died on Sunday night, shortly after the crash near the Cape Cod Airfield.

Barnstable police Sgt. David Myett said that it's unclear whether the skydivers' equipment malfunctioned.

He says the district attorney's office will investigate their deaths.

Channel blaze under control

A fire broke out on board a cross-English Channel ferry as it was arriving in northern France, operator P&O has said.

A total of 337 passengers were on the Pride of Canterbury vessel, which had sailed from Dover in Kent, when the blaze broke out in the engine room at 8am. A P&O spokeswoman said:

"The fire was extinguished straight away by the sprinkler system. There were no injuries, either among the crew or passengers."
