Traveller feud fears grow as shots are fired at house in broad daylight

Two men were last night being questioned after a north Dublin home was sprayed with bullets on Sunday afternoon.

The incident unfolded at the property in St Mary's Park in the Dunsink Lane area of Finglas at around 3pm and gardai are investigating whether the incident is part of a new Traveller feud that has broken out in the locality.

No-one was injured in the gun attack and gardai arrested one suspect at the scene as he tried to flee the area.

In a follow-up operation late on Sunday night, a second man aged 43 was picked up by detectives in the Blackrock area of south Dublin.

He was brought to Finglas Garda Station where he was being questioned as well as his younger associate who is believed to be related to him.

Gardai are continuing to hunt for a third man who was also seen fleeing .

Both of the arrested men are understood to have strong links to other Traveller criminals.

The gun attack is the first to happen in the Dunsink Lane area for many months after gardai put a robust policing plan in place to target criminality there.

The situation in the locality has calmed down significantly after a large number of pipe bomb attacks and shootings in 2011 and 2012.

Sources say that the shooting is not linked to local criminal Anthony 'The Mole' McDonagh (48) who is currently serving a jail sentence in England.
