Trap could be in hospital for another week after surgery

GIOVANNI Trapattoni may be in hospital until next week since undergoing abdominal surgery yesterday.

The Ireland manager (71) was operated on in the Mater Hospital to alleviate his severe pain but going under the knife didn't stop him from supporting his team.

Although he may have missed Ireland's friendly against Argentina last night as he recovered from surgery, he made sure to watch the inaugural Aviva Stadium match on television from his hospital bed.

Doctors decided to operate on him after he was rushed to hospital on Tuesday, believed to be suffering from food poisoning after eating shellfish in Italy. However as he spent more time in hospital, his condition appeared more serious than the initial diagnosis of food poisoning had suggested.
