Liam Neeson's new action flick, Run All Night took a hit at the US box office at the weekend as Disney's Cinderella was the belle of the ball.

The actor is known for the success of his action flicks, such as the Taken movies, but this one didn't pack enough punch.

Fellow Northern Irishman Kenneth Branagh's live action adaptation of the classic fairytale took in €67m, which is one of the best-ever opening weekends for the month of March in the US.

Downton Abbey's Lily James is in the title role, opposite Game of Thrones star Richard Madden as Prince Charming.

Cate Blanchett gives a stirring performance as Cinderella's wicked stepmother and the critics love Helena Bonham Carter's portrayal of the iconic fairy godmother.

Neeson's film pulled in €10m to make it to second place at the US box office.

Run All Night sees Neeson play an ageing hitman who takes on his former boss to protect his son.

Known for his role as Brian Mills in the Taken franchise, Neeson has cemented himself as one of Hollywood's most bankable action stars.

Last year, he starred in six movies and brought in €946m at the box office worldwide.

However, while we're used to seeing him in dramatic fight scenes on the silver screen, the 62-year-old recently revealed he could be giving up action flicks in two years time.

"Maybe two more years - if God spares me, and I'm healthy. But after that, I'll stop the action, I think," he said recently.

"I'm in a very, career-wise, great place. Thanks to the success, certainly of the Taken films, Hollywood seems to see me in a different light. I get sent quite a few action- orientated scripts, which is great. I'm not knocking it. It's very flattering. But there is a limit of course."
