Toddler in fatal fall at local farm

A TODDLER died yesterday in a tragic accident in Co Meath.

The 18-month-old child, named locally as Patrick McDonnell, died after falling into a rainwater lagoon shortly before noon yesterday in Donore, Co Meath.

The little boy was visiting a relative's farm when he is believed to have fallen into the 1.5m-deep lagoon.

The child's grandparents, Jim and Irene McDonnell, run a well-known Bed and Breakfast called Roughgrange Farm in Donore.

The boy was discovered by family who rushed him to Our Lady's Hospital in Drogheda. He was later pronounced dead, in what gardai have described as a "dreadful tragedy".

The toddler's grief stricken parents Jamie and Caroline and his siblings, aged 7 and 4, were being comforted by family.
