THREE young men have died in a horrific road crash, just outside Cashel, Co Tipperary.
Gardai were today trying to piece together how the accident occured shortly before 11pm last night.
By this morning they had still not identified the victims and were waiting to interview a fourth man who was injured.
Officers said it was the worst collision seen in the area for some time. The accident happned on the northbound side of the Cashal-to-Dublin road just before the M8.
The three dead men were travelling in a car that collided with a lorry in what appeared to have been a head-on collision.
The car's driver, a front seat passenger and a rear seat passenger were dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. Gardai are hoping he may be able to help them piece together what happened.
It was taking time to identify the three victims of the crash which happned less than 2km from the centre of Cashel.
Initial indications were that the young men were not local.
Gardai have appealed for witnesses to call them at Cashel on 062-75840, or the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-600-111.
