THREE men have been arrested over the suspected abduction attempt of another man.

The man was assaulted and forced into a car in Co Kildare, before being driven in the direction of Dublin yesterday.

The incident occurred at St John's Lane, Athy, shortly after 12pm.

Gardai were notified and the blue Hyundi Santa Fe car was intercepted and stopped on the M9 motorway close to Ballytore.

The three men were arrested and were detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Newbridge, Kildare and Naas garda stations last night.

The victim was taken to Naas General Hospital, after suffering minor injuries.

It's understood the three men, aged in their early-to-mid 20s, are from the Clondalkin area of Dublin while the victim is from Athy.

Last week a man was charged in connection with a carjacking of Sabrina Cence in Longford on Wednesday.

Mr Zarans, a Latvian national, of 15 Weaver's Hall, Market Square, Longford, was charged with the false imprisonment of Ms Cence at Heaton's car park, Townspark, Longford, on October 29.

Garda Orla Geraghty told Judge Grainne O'Neill that in reply to Mr Zaran's caution and charging, he replied: "I want to apologise to the woman".

Knifepoint

He was remanded in custody to appear again before Harristown District Court on November 7.

A second man remains under medical attention at Tullamore Hospital.

Ms Cence was returning to her car at the car park on Ballymahon Street was approached by two men and attacked at knifepoint.

She was forced into the back of her car and driven away from the car park at speed.

Gardai at Longford station tracked the incident on CCTV and pursued.
