Thief lifted phone from counter as victim paid

AN OPPORTUNISTIC thief pocketed a woman's mobile phone while she was at a petrol station counter, a court heard.

Maria Asimionesei (32) put the mobile in her handbag and walked out of the shop.

Judge David McHugh fined her €100.

The defendant, of Foxdene Avenue in Clondalkin, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to stealing an Apple iPhone from Applegreen, Dublin Road, Celbridge on June 22 last.

Sergeant Mary Doherty said the victim put her mobile phone on the counter and Asimionesei lifted it and put it in her handbag.

The court heard the defendant is originally from Romania but has lived in Ireland for 14 years.

She has two children and was very sorry for her behaviour.
