Teenager admits sex assaults on girl aged 6
A teenage boy is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl while playing hide and seek.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified, appeared at the Dublin Children's Court to plead guilty to two counts of sexual assault and one charge of attempted sexual assault. He had earlier indicated he was contesting the case and was due to face trial, but changed his plea yesterday.
He spoke to indicate he did not want to face a jury trial in the Circuit Court. Sentencing was adjourned after Judge John O'Connor heard the facts of the case.
Prosecution counsel Antonia Boyle told the court the offences happened in 2016.
The girl's mother reported to gardai that when her daughter had seen her father coming out of the bathroom naked, she had asked: "Why is Daddy's willy down when [the defendant]'s points up?"
The girl was interviewed by trained gardai and recounted several occasions of sexual abuse.
The girl, now 8, now suffers from sleepless nights and suicidal thoughts.
Judge John O'Connor warned that the teen, who was remanded on continuing bail, could face a sentence of up to two years.
