Teen punched man after disabled pal abused

A TEENAGER chased and punched another young man in the face after he was told the man had been slagging off and jeering at a friend who has spina bifida and is confined to a wheelchair.

Ceiron Tomas Hughes (19) said he was standing up for his friend and was incensed by the victim's alleged name-calling of him.

A court heard the victim had strenuously denied that he made any joking comments about Hughes's friend.

He claimed that he was attacked by Hughes and by another individual in a separate incident after news incorrectly spread amongst the disabled man's neighbours that he had slagged him.

PEACE

A judge said the victim was unharmed by Hughes two punches.

Judge Clare Leonard applied the Probation Act and ordered Hughes to enter into a peace bond for a year.

The defendant, of Hillview Grove in Ballinteer, admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to assaulting Daniel White.

The incident took place at Broadford Road, Ballinteer on January 16 last year.

The court heard the victim strongly denied the name- calling, but Mr Lynam claimed the disabled man gave gardai a statement where he said he was slagged by him.
