Teen in soccer riot walks free

A TEENAGER who was found guilty of breaching the peace during a mini-riot after a League of Ireland match at Tolka Park, Dublin, has been spared a conviction and custodial sentence.

The boy (17) had been found guilty at an earlier hearing at the Dublin Children's Court of threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour, following a match between Shelbourne and Dundalk FC on June 6, 2008.

Noting that the teenager had adhered to a plan of activities drawn up by the Probation Service, Judge Clare Leonard struck out the case, leaving the boy without a criminal conviction.
