‘Swish’ Angela kicking off clothes-swapping craze

FASHIONISTA Angela Scanlon is kick-starting the so-called swishing’ movement in Ireland by donating three coveted items from her wardrobe for the opening of Ireland’s first style exchange’.

Swishing’ is an ethically-inspired form of shopping where you up-
cycle your look by swapping quality but unworn items with friends and style-lovers alike.

It has taken Britain by storm in recent months and TV presenter and style-queen Angela was on hand to bring it to Ireland.

Individuals must donate an item to participate in the transaction, and once they have, they are free to choose a new to them’ item.

The online Galaxy Style Exchange is going live on Twitter on Thursday and Angela is getting things started by offering three of her own pieces for exchange.

She said: “I’ll be digging out some old favourites and hoping someone takes them off my hands.

“I never buy things I don’t absolutely love so for me the joy is seeing someone else get as much enjoyment out of a piece as I did,” she said.

Angela, who divides her time between Dublin and London, has been kept very busy recently, having returned from Copenhagen where she covered Eurovision for a documentary celebrating its 50th anniversary.

She is currently filming four documentaries including “Angela Scanlon’s NAKED TRUTH” due out in autumn.

And she is in for an adventurous few weeks after landing a role as the new host of travel show Getaways.

The joint RTE/BBC production is filming this month with Angela replacing current presenter Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain.

San Francisco on the US west coast will be one of the first glamorous destinations she’ll be reviewing.

Then there are the plans of her dream wedding to finalise.

She is set to tie the knot with long-term boyfriend Roy Horgan in Co. Wicklow.

“Five weeks to the wedding, this sounds both terrifying and exciting! It’s going to be a very busy summer but I’m all over it” she said.

The bride-to-be is getting her dream dress custom-made by Beyonce’s favourite Irish designer, Sorcha O’Raghallaigh.

Swap boutique Siopaella is also getting involved and will be hosting invitation-only an in-store event on June 11.

Owner Ella De Guzman offers the following advice when choosing outfits to exchange: “When it comes to choosing outfits to up-cycle at a Style Exchange I would ask yourself, when did I wear this last?

“If it has been more than six months then maybe it is time to let it go to a new loving home.”

Fashion conscious Twitter users can see how they can go along to the Sioaella event by following @galaxy_ie.

Meanwhile, to take part in the Style Exchange followers will need to upload a photo of their items to be donated using the hash tag #GalaxyStyle then enjoy searching through the online treasure trove of gorgeous pieces ready to be swapped.
