Suspect quizzed as victim buried

SUSPECTED murder victim Cyril Moran (60) was laid to rest today, close to his home.

His removal from a funeral home to St Anne's Church in Sligo took place yesterday evening.

He was laid to rest in Sligo cemetery after Mass of the Resurrection in the church today.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man questioned last week after an assault on Mr Moran was again quizzed a second time two days ago.

He was released on both occasions and a file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A 29-year-old man has also been questioned and freed and a file is being forwarded by gardai to the DPP on him also.

Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis found that Mr Moran, a pub quiz champion and former junior soccer administrator, died of head injuries.

Detectives believe Mr Moran knew his attacker who assaulted him in his house at River Road, Cartron Point, Sligo, very late last Wednesday or in the early hours of Thursday.

Mr Moran was later dropped off outside Sligo General Hospital and admitted himself to accident and emergency.

He later slipped into a coma and died on Sunday evening.
