Suspect quizzed as attack victim fights for life
A YOUNG man remains in a critical condition after being assaulted during a night out.
James Tynan (25) was found by gardai with head injuries early on Sunday outside Hayes' Hotel on Liberty Square, Thurles.
Gardai were continuing to question a 22-year-old man from Co Tipperary about the attack.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.30am yesterday morning.
It's understood Mr Tynan was punched at least once before he fell to the ground and banged his head.
There is CCTV in the vicinity and gardai are now trawling through footage as part of their investigation.
Mr Tynan, who is from Johnstown, Co Kilkenny, was rushed to South Tipperary General Hospital, Clonmel, where he remains in a critical condition.
Mr Tynan is employed by Tynan Meats and is known to his friends as 'Duff'.
Friends posted get-well messages on his Facebook page as they prayed for his recovery.
Officers arrested a 22-year-old, believed to be from Co Tipperary, shortly after the assault and he is currently being held under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act at Thurles Garda Station.
Yesterday, the area remained sealed off as members of the Garda Technical Team carried out a forensic examination.
Supt Pat Lordan, who is leading the probe, has called for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
