Suspect faces bank raid trial

A DUBLIN man is facing trial after being accused of attempting to rob a female bank official.

Thomas Clark (42) was allegedly armed when he is accused of confronting a female staff member of the EBS in Leixlip, Co Kildare, and demanding cash.

However, the court heard he fled empty-handed and was arrested by gardai a short distance away.

Clark, of Keeper Road, in Crumlin, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with robbery on October 21 last year.

He is on bail and the case was adjourned for two weeks.

McCann vigil for missing chef

The mother of Madeleine McCann attended a candlelit vigil to mark the 37th birthday of missing chef Claudia Lawrence -- as detectives admitted they are no closer to a breakthrough in the case.

Kate McCann walked side by side with Miss Lawrence's father Peter to the service at York Minster, in England.

Detectives involved in the murder inquiry have said that Miss Lawrence's tangled love life, including affairs with married men, has been one of the biggest challenges.
