SURVEY

THE Irish are the biggest fans of the euro currency, new research has identified.

The new Eurobarometer report on the euro area found that the majority of Irish respondents (72pc) are most likely to regard the euro as a good thing for their country.

This represents a rise of 4pc since the last such survey in October 2012.

The euro area average was 57pc with support lowest in Cyprus at 43pc.

However, the survey also reveals that Irish people are third most likely to agree there is a need for significant reforms to improve the economic performance.

And 97pc of Irish people are most likely to think it is important their national government to introduce health system reforms to help improve growth and employment.
