SUPERMARKET giant SuperValu plans to add 300 employees to its workforce on the back of strong performance in 2012.
The wider Musgrave Group said that sales at the business increased by 5pc within the year and plans to invest €20m across its various franchise partners.
The company has pencilled in three new store openings and a further 40 existing outlets being either extended or refurbished.
More than half the jobs will be generated at new greenfield sites in Celbridge, Co Kildare and Milltown Malbay, Co Clare.
Already, more than 12,000 people are employed across the network of 195 stores, with an annual payroll of €213m.
SuperValu also said yesterday that it generated sales of €2.1bn last year, a marginal increase on the €2bn reported in the previous year.
The supermarket said that it is expecting to sell €20m worth of Irish spring lambs in 2013.
SuperValu also has the largest network of qualified butchers, with 450 butchers employed across its network of 195 stores.
