Sunshine is on way -- but watch for showers

THE first taste of summer is on the way -- and not even an ash cloud will be able to sour the enjoyment.

Forecasters say that while the week ahead will be a mixed bag of sunshine and showers, temperatures are set to hit 21 degrees.

However, experts in Met Eireann say we shouldn't head for the beach just yet.

The chilly temperatures of last week are set to disappear but it will be a case of enjoying the sunshine while you can, as outbreaks of rain will be unavoidable.

Temperatures will rise around 15 degrees later this evening but Met Eireann weather forecaster Evelyn Cusack warned: "There's a band of rain moving in from the Atlantic for this afternoon and this evening."

The outlook for tomorrow is mixed but it will be much warmer than last week.

"Tomorrow it'll be 14 degrees, and it'll be quite sunny all over [the country]. It'll be mostly dry with sunny spells and scattered showers."

Next week will have a mix of showers and sunshine, but the sun will peep through for our first glimpse of summer.

Later on in the week, temperatures will reach the mid to high teens and at times up to 21 degrees, with some warm sunny spells.
