A mother-of-three who stole a pair of designer sunglasses was battling heroin addiction, a court heard.

Laura Murphy (45) has since spent four months in a residential drug treatment centre and was "looking much healthier", Dublin District Court was told.

The defendant, of Snowdrop Walk, Darndale, admitted taking a pair of sunglasses worth €170 from O'Sullivan Optical in Clarehall Shopping Centre in October 2016.

Gda Lisa Murray said Murphy was identified from CCTV footage. However, the property was not recovered.

Battled

Murphy's lawyer said his client had battled a significant heroin problem for a number of years.

The court heard that she went to Cuan Dara treatment centre last July and had since been detoxed from drugs.

Murphy had not come to the attention of gardai since this incident.

She was also now looking much healthier, the court heard.

Judge Anthony Halpin ordered Murphy to pay €100 compensation and adjourned sentencing to a date next month.
