Students ban Coke in Russia gay storm

TRINITY students have banned the sale of Coca-Cola and all Procter & Gamble products at students' union campus shops over their sponsorship of the Winter Olympics in Russia.

The students' union made the move in response to Russia's ongoing violations of human rights law and persecution of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

SOLIDARITY

"We want to show solidarity to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Russia and banned the sale of the products on campus as a mark of respect," Leanna Byrne from the students' union said.

Russia recently approved legislation banning "homosexual propaganda".

Procter & Gamble and Coca-Cola did not respond to queries at the time of going to print.
