Stores in credit plea
RETAIL representatives want a loan guarantee scheme introduced for SMEs to improve the flow of credit.
Retail Ireland, the IBEC group that represents the retail sector, said the key challenge facing the next government was to restore consumer confidence and boost spending,
To safeguard jobs in the sector, the group said urgent reform was needed to reduce key business costs, such as rent, labour costs and commercial rates, and improve access to credit.
"Since the start of the recession there has been an enormous fall in customer spending, but the cost of running a shop has hardly fallen," Retail Ireland Director Torlach Denihan said.
