Stay safe on the roads
last year five people died on the country's roads over the May Bank Holiday weekend and six others suffered serious injuries.
As thousands take to the country's roads today, we can only hope that such a death toll is not repeated.
But we can do more than hope. We can heed the warnings from gardai and drive safely on our roads, cutting our speed and being vigilant for other road users.
This weekend will see gardai target dangerous drivers, with officers also urging motorists to take care.
Five motorcyclists have died on Irish roads to date this year, compared with two at this point last year. The good weather of the last two summers also saw more motor- cylists on the roads, with a corresponding rise in fatalities.
Whether you're on a motorbike or bicycle or in a car or on foot, stay safe on our roads this weekend.
