Star Wars sabre coach dies at 89

Olympic fencer and movie sword master Bob Anderson, who fought Darth Vader's light sabre battles and appeared in some of Hollywood's most famous duelling scenes, has died at 89.

Former Royal Marine Bob Anderson wielded the light sabre in two of the three original Star Wars films, The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi.

Anderson died early on New Year's Day at a hospital in West Sussex, the British Academy of Fencing said.



Three killed by avalanches

Two snowmobilers and a skier have died in three separate avalanches, authorities in Montana said.

The Livingston Enterprise reported that David Lee Gaillard (44) was skiing with his wife on Saturday afternoon southeast of Cooke City when an avalanche occurred. His body was later recovered. About two hours earlier, another avalanche north of Cooke City buried Jody Ray Verhasselt (46).

Another man died on Sunday when his snowmobile triggered an avalanche east of Red Lion.



Body found on queen's estate

An investigation is under way after human remains were found in woodland on the queen's estate in Norfolk on New Year's Day.

Detectives from Norfolk Constabulary were alerted to the discovery by a member of the public at Anmer, which lies on the royal family's Sandringham Estate.

The area was sealed off and a detailed search was being carried out yesterday.

Buckingham Palace said it had no comment to make as it was "a matter for Norfolk police".



Vietnam war shell kills two

A Vietnam War-era artillery shell has exploded in central Vietnam, killing two people and wounding two others.

Police officer Nguyen Thanh Hoai says a man who was cutting the shell for scrap metal on the side of a highway in Binh Thuan province died at the scene following yesterday's explosion. He says shrapnel killed a passer-by who was sitting on the back of a motorbike.
