Standstill after five car crash at airport

A pile-up near Dublin airport of four cars and a van brought traffic to a standstill this morning.

Two lanes of the motorway were closed by the accident which happened shortly after 7am between the Swords roundabout and the airport junction.

No-one was seriously injured in the crash but Garda tow-trucks raced to the scene to try to clear the area and the traffic backlog.

DIVERT

Motorists were advised to divert onto the old Swords Road at the Lissenhall interchange but the pile-up still led to long delays in the early morning commuter rush.

The problem was compounded by another accident at Blake's Cross further up the motorway which also affected traffic coming towards the city from Balbriggan.
