Spanish happy with new King

Popularity ratings for Spain's King Felipe VI are high, one year into the monarch's reign, stemming a plunge registered under his scandal-hit father, according to an opinion poll.

The poll indicates 75.1pc of Spaniards think Felipe is a good king, while 19pc think the opposite and 5.9pc did not know or did not answer.

The monarchy was backed by 61.5pc, compared with 49.9pc in January 2014, before King Juan Carlos abdicated in Felipe's favor.

Felipe (46) said he intended to restore public trust in the monarchy on becoming king in June 2014.
