Southside Luas project on target

VIRTUALLY all track work on the new southside Luas Cherrywood line -- set to open later this year -- has now been installed.

The only exception is two short sections at the top of Brewery Road Bridge and under Glenamuck Bridge, the Railway Procurement Agency reported today.

The new line, with a journey time of 40 minutes from Cherrywood to the city centre, is designed to carry up to 26 million passengers a year.

"The surfacing of the tracks is nearing completion," an RPA report said. "Installation of the electrical systems is progressing well and in a number of areas final landscaping has been planted."

Construction works at the Sandyford stop are also complete, while the reinstatement of a Park and Ride will be finished in the first six months of this year.
