Smuggler gets four years' jail

A debt-ridden Yorkshire man who attempted to import €300,000 of cannabis through Dublin Port has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

John Humphrey (28) told gardai he was to be paid €1,500 for driving the van to Ireland. The father of two has no previous convictions.

Humphrey, of Sandway Drive, Thorpe Willoughby, Selby, was sent forward to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on a signed District Court guilty plea to possession of the drugs for sale or supply on December 14, 2013.

Garda Lee Cummins told the prosecution that customs officers found 15kg of cannabis herb, valued at €304,544, concealed under the vehicle floor.

Freud son 'felt airbrushed out'

A son of Lucian Freud has said he felt he was being airbrushed out of family history after the artist died.

With the artist's fortune still to be settled, Paul McAdam Freud, who is one of four children from Freud's relationship with the artist Katherine McAdam, said he was asked to prove he is Freud's son.

Freud's death in July 2011 started a battle for recognition and to prove he is a genuine relation as his father's will was being processed.

Boy loses arm feeding bear

A bear in central China has bitten off the arm of a nine-year-old boy who tried to feed it through its cage.

Media reports said the attack happened Saturday afternoon at Pingdingshan Hebin Park in Henan province, which has a zoo inside. The boy managed to push his arm through the bear's cage to feed it when the bear bit him.

A doctor said he lost his entire right arm.

Blunt admits hit was 'annoying'

Chart star James Blunt has declared his own best-selling hit You're Beautiful was "annoying".

The 40-year-old singer admitted the tune was over-exposed and alienated a lot of people.

In an interview with the new edition of Hello! magazine, he said was nothing like the "earnest" figure he is reputed to be.
