Six shots fired at man in break-in

A 36-year-old man was lucky to escape with his life when he was shot at six times last night in west Dublin.

The victim, named locally as Paul Gorman (36), sustained an injury to his leg when the lone gunman fired a number of shots during an incident at Whitestown Drive, Mulhuddart.

The incident happened at 10.30pm. Mr Gorman was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

Two children -- aged six and 11 -- were asleep in Mr Gorman's girlfriend's house when the gunman struck. Sources say that he smashed a patio window with a block and then forced his way into the property.

The gunman was confronted in the hallway by Mr Gorman who was shot but then managed to escape from the house.
