Single mum put off road despite plea

A DRIVER who crashed into another car and left the scene begged a judge not to put her off the road, as she was a single mother and needed her car to transport her daughter.

April Doyle (31) caused €600 worth of damage to a vehicle, while she was bringing a friend to work. A judge fined her €700 and banned her from driving for one year.

Doyle, of Dun Saithne Avenue in Balbriggan, admitted before Swords District Court to two counts of hit and run.

The incident took place at Flemington Lane, Balbriggan on August 25 last year.

The court heard that Doyle had five previous convictions, mostly for traffic matters.

Defence lawyer John Costello said Doyle was fully insured, and the owner of the other vehicle had been compensated.

When the accident happened she panicked and drove away. The court heard that Doyle was pregnant at the time, and Mr Costello said this meant she was more nervous than usual.
