Shane took Viagra at the Queen Vic

There were stiff drinks all round at the Queen Vic after EastEnders star Shane Richie revealed that several of the regulars filmed a scene in the famous bar after taking anti-impotence drug Viagra.

Richie, whose character Alfie Moon is one of the pub's former landlords, told all during an EastEnders special of the Graham Norton Show to mark the soap's 30th anniversary.

He said: "It was when Viagra had just come out and we all took one - we were told they would take 20 minutes to work so I popped a pill at the end of the day. Just as I was on my way out the director said, 'We need to shoot a scene again.' All the men who filmed the scene pressed very close to the bar."

The one-off chat show featured cast members past and present including current Queen Vic landlords Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright.

Dyer, who plays Mick Carter, said he would stay with the soap "as long as they'll have me".

He said: "I'm glad I've done other stuff, but for me it's like a retirement home. It's a great job but it's a lot of rejection.

Cheque

"It's cut-throat and you never know where your next pay cheque is coming from so I'm happy to sit back and be part of this show."

Viewers watching next week's 30th anniversary celebrations will discover the identity of who killed Lucy Beale and even her on-screen father Ian, played by Adam Woodyatt, does not know who it is.

He said: "The script is censored, I haven't a clue. I just know enough for my part."

The full interview will be shown on The Graham Norton Show EastEnders Special on BBC One at 10.45pm on Monday.
