Sex attack on lone woman on way home

VICTIM in her 60s was assaulted and subjected to a sickening sex attack.





The woman – who is in her early 60s – was walking home around 11pm last night when she was attacked from behind in Charleville, Co Cork.

The attack occurred in the Turrets area of the North Cork town and saw the woman viciously struck in the head before she was dragged into the darkened driveway of a house.

She was then subjected to a serious sexual assault before her attacker fled on foot.

Alarm

The traumatised woman staggered out to the roadway and managed to flag down a passing motorist who then raised the alarm.

The woman was taken to Charleville Garda Station and detectives raced to the scene and began a search for the attacker.

The area was sealed off and a full forensic examination was being carried out today by garda technical experts. The shocked woman was taken to a Cork hospital to have a head injury treated.

The woman is said to be deeply traumatised by her ordeal with gardai admitting that a shocking level of violence was used against her.

Culprit

The victim will also be assessed in a special sexual assault treatment unit.

Charleville gardai described the incident as “very serious” and appealed for public assistance in finding the culprit.

The attacker is described as being in his 20s, wearing dark jeans and a hoodie-type top.

It is suspected that he used a weapon to strike the woman before launching a sexual assault her.
